Grain Alley

With its industrial-inspired interior softened by touches of indoor greenery, Grain Alley is a warm modern coffee shop with a twist. Whether you’re looking for a relaxing spot for all-day breakfast, a chill bar for whisky and cocktails in the evening or a cosy mid-day refuge for coffee and nibbles, Grain Alley is the place to be. A popular dish is the Duck Tagine with Truffle Mash ($25), a whole duck leg sous-vided for over 36 hours and served with black truffle mash. Rocky Master

Known for its affordable gourmet coffee and Asian fusion food, Rocky Master is a Halal-certified homegrown brand. With its casual vibes and a good variety of cakes, pastries, and drinks, it’s a great choice for your next catch-up. Start your day right together with a Rockin’ American Breakfast set ($16.20), which comes with unlimited refillable brewed coffee or tea. Bread & Hearth

This little cafe specialises in artisanal bread and pastries, which explains why its dark-wood interior is always filled with the delicious aroma of fresh bakes. Warm, welcoming and rustic, we think it’s the perfect spot to cosy up for a catch-up over delicious bites like the AvocaToast ($16.90). It’s a creation of sourdough toast, avocado, eggs of your choice and leafy greens. The Big Breakfast ($18.90) is also a good choice if you’re looking for a classic and hearty American breakfast. Genius Central

Work hard, play hard! If you’re looking for a venue that does it all, check out Genius Central. The chic cafe offers vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free options to fuel your next catch-up but it’s also a business hub for entrepreneurs and digital nomads, complete with meeting spaces available for booking. While there, be sure to try Genius Central’s signature items like the Falafel Bowl ($18), Creamy Mushroom Pasta ($18) and fresh smoothies (from $9 to $10). L’Atelier Tiramisu

L’Atelier Tiramisu translates into “The Tiramisu Workshop”, so expect well-crafted versions of the popular Italian dessert. The tempting selection features seven delightful variations — beyond the classic tiramisu, explore flavours like lychee, matcha, dark cherry, brulee, pistachio and lavender earl grey. Get your preferred flavour in any of the four available sizes — Piccolo ($17 for 250gm), Half Slab ($34 for 500gm), 7” cake ($62 for 1 kg) or 10” cake ($120 for 2kg). Bing Bing Ice Cream Gallery

If you think eggless or trans-fat-free ice cream won’t taste as good, you have to try Bing Bing Ice Cream Gallery’s take! Rich and creamy, the guilt-free artisanal ice cream on offer will melt your heart! There’s always a wide array of flavours available, including Red Bean Gula Melaka, Mao Shan Wang, and Salted Caramel ($3.90 a scoop). Awfully Chocolate

When it comes to chocolate desserts, Awfully Chocolate needs no introduction. The homegrown chocolatier is well-loved for its rich, fudgy cakes but we think that its Hei ice cream ($4.90) — a delectable combination of Belgian chocolate and 100% Dutch fresh milk — is the perfect treat to stave off the heat. Craftsmen Specialty Coffee

Inspired to deliver great coffees with quality beans, Craftsmen Specialty Coffee has been making a name for itself since 2013. Every cup is brewed from single-origin coffee beans sourced from the best growers around the world so coffee-lovers can enjoy different aromas and flavours that cater to your palate. To avoid drinking coffee on an empty stomach, the café offers a full food menu that includes its signature 3-Tier Brioche ($20) with your choice of eggs, black forest ham, cheddar, mozzarella cheese, avocado, side salad and signature sauce. Joe & Dough

Founded with a simple dream to bring good speciality coffee and handcrafted bakes to everyone, Joe & Dough is known for consistently great cups of coffee. Its signature coffee, d.r. Joe ($5.50 for a regular, $6.50 for a large) is made from its own house blend, “Joe 1914”, and pulled into a double ristretto. Try it alongside the café’s Gula Melaka Pandan cake ($6.50 for a slice, $55 for a whole cake), which is a fragrant Pandan-infused butter cake slathered with Gula Melaka and topped with desiccated coconut, or the new Valrhona Dark Chocolate Brownie ($5.50 a piece), made with 70% dark chocolate and packed with loads of chocolate chips for added crunch. Gloria Jean’s Coffees

Gloria Jean’s Coffees kickstarted the coffee revolution back in 1979 and now operates more than 600 coffeehouses across 40 countries worldwide. If you are looking for more than just coffee classics, try the Irish Nut Creme ($6.50), a delightful blend of Irish creme, hazelnut and white chocolate with fresh espresso, steamed milk, and green sprinkles for luck. The Salted Caramel Latte ($6.90) is also popular for its well-balanced taste. You can also cool off with the Voltage Chiller ($6.90), a delicious chocolate-and-espresso concoction and the Kit Kat Chiller ($6.90), complete KitKat’s classic wafer. Sowl Coffee

Sowl (pronounced: S-owl) Coffee is a relatively new entrant to Singapore’s bustling cafe scene. It differentiates itself with a commitment to serving seasonal coffee from around the world. So if a global coffee tour sounds like fun, you definitely have to check out this speciality joint. Only espresso-based beverages such as Black ($4.50), White ($5), Mocha ($5.50) and shakened Orange Expresso ($6) are served, using a blend of Brazilian and Ethiopian coffee beans roasted by Dutch Colony Coffee Co. Kins’

Kins’ is a speciality cafe with all-day dining on weekdays and indulgent brunches on weekends. It boasts open and minimalistic space and a classic but well-executed brunch menu featuring favourites like the Big Brekkie ($22) and their signature dessert, the Kins’ Burnt Cheesecake ($7.50). Enjoy yours surrounded by the sleek white counters and concrete-style walls inside or soak in a more natural and casual vibe outdoors. Visit Kins’ at Bijou, #01-09.

 

Group Therapy Cafe

Group Therapy Cafe is a casual and approachable dining concept that blends with the laidback Katong neighbourhood it is nestled in. With its comfortable sofas and familiar décor, it feels like you’re stepping into a friend’s living room — a friend who also cooks up a delicious brunch! Group Therapy is known for its reasonably priced brunch and is also popular for a mid-day caffeine fix or a simple meal. The Poached Eggs ($15) is served stacked on an incredibly thick and fluffy toast with salmon and hollandaise sauce. Swissbake

This is a café concept by Swissbake, so you know you can count on premium quality bread and confectionery products. At Swissbake, you get to select from a range of signature handcrafted sandwiches, craft your own salads or choose from a well-built, keto-friendly menu. At the top of our list are the Smoked Salmon Kraftwich ($9.80), Beef Pastrami Kraftwich ($9.80), Thai Spicy Chicken Salad ($12.90) and Ninja Bowl ($13.90). Nick Vina Artisan Bakery

The brainchild of Chef Nick Chua, Nick Vina brings the traditional German bread-baking process to Singapore. The award-winning outfit is a modern bakery and cosy cafe where you can enjoy fresh, wholesome bread, just like it was baked at home. It’s known for being a healthy bakery that uses only GMO-free winter wheat from the Hildesheim Börde region in Germany and has built a sterling reputation for its delicious and very affordable classic Sourdough bread ($6.50). Be sure to try other flavourful bakes like the Volkornbot brown bread ($6) and Pistachio Choco Berry ($7.50) while you’re there! Visit Nick Vina Artisan Baker at Icon Village, #01-54.

 

Yugoslavia Bakery & Café

Take your tastebuds on a trip to the Balkan Peninsula! Yugoslavia Bakery & Cafe specialises in freshly baked Balkan pies and bread. It’s a gastronomic adventure for those unfamiliar with the southeast European flavour. Must-try items on the menu include Burek ($7.50 for a swirl), a baked pie with a deliciously thin and flaky crust, Bajadera ($7.90 for a box of 3), a Croatian layered nougat, and Yugoslavian fresh yoghurt ($3.40 a cup). Henri Charpentier

It’s French, it’s Japanese and it’s undoubtedly exquisite! Henri Charpentier delights the senses with its beautifully crafted desserts and cakes. It’s an understatement to say that its Freshly Baked Financiers ($2.50 each) — Henri Charpentier holds the Guinness World Record for the most number of financiers sold in a year. Also recommended are the light-as-air Double Cheesecake ($8.50 a slice) which is made with raw milk from Hokkaido, mascarpone cheese, high-quality fresh cream and decorated with Sablé crumbs and the Strawberry Shortcake ($10.20 a slice) that was crowned the best Shortcake in Japan on a well-known Japanese television programme.
