Our sixth chefs at Chef X @ Clarke Quay Central is Kentaro, operating from 20 February to 17 April 2025. We spoke to founders, Stella and Kent, to find out more about their journey.

From makeup brushes to culinary creations, Stella's journey to becoming a private chef is a testament to her passion for food and connecting with people. During the pandemic, a lull in her makeup artistry work led her to explore her love of cooking, initially sharing dishes with friends. Their enthusiastic encouragement spurred her to turn this passion into a side business, providing a much-needed income boost. 

A pivotal moment arrived in 2022 when she met Chef Kent. He became her mentor, refining her culinary skills and broadening her gastronomic knowledge, allowing her to create ever more exquisite dining experiences. Chef Kent, a Malaysian native with a lifetime immersed in the food and beverage industry – from baker and hawker to omakase chef and quality control manager – recognised their shared vision. Together, they are launching "Kentaro" (貓太郎雞飯), a sub-brand of Stella's existing private chef service, "Avodah by Stellamoon". The name, a playful combination of "Kent", Stella's affection for cats, and the common Japanese name "Taro," reflects the brand's Japanese-inspired cuisine and the collaborative partnership at its heart. While Avodah by Stellamoon continues to offer bespoke private dining experiences, Kentaro represents a new venture, targeting a broader audience with walk-in, takeaway, and casual dining options, offering everyday comfort food and bento boxes.

Seeking to broaden her experience beyond her home-based business, Stella is eager to learn the ropes of commercial kitchen management and cost control. Chef X provides the perfect platform, offering opportunities to serve walk-in diners, raise brand awareness, and hone large-scale cooking skills in a professional environment.

Kentaro will be offering their signature and specially curated options for Chef X! 

 

Signature dishes include Kentaro Signature Sakura Chicken Rice, Curry Beef Brisket Rice/Noodle, Sakura Chicken Soup Ramen/Udon and Kentaro Curry Chicken Rice/ Noodle.

About Chef X @ Clarke Quay Central

 

Chef X @ Clarke Quay Central is an initiative by Far East Organization that provides home-based chefs and private dining chefs with a sandbox to operate their own full-fledged commercial restaurant within Clarke Quay Central mall for four or eight weeks. From 26 April 2024, each resident chef will serve out of a professionally designed F&B space fitted with commercial-grade kitchen equipment, with a dining area that can accommodate up to 24 diners.

Apart from physical resources, resident chefs will be offered guidance. They can look forward to receiving advice and tips - from menu planning, food presentation and recipe refinements, to business and human resource management, from Chef Isaac Tan, Head of Culinary & Product Innovations for Commonwealth Concepts (CWC), the F&B joint venture between Commonwealth Capital and Far East Organization. An industry veteran who has led dining institutions such as Bedrock Bar & Grill since its inception in 2008, Chef Isaac Tan currently steers 12 distinct brands under the group, including Fat Cow, Kinki Restaurant + Bar, and The Marmalade Pantry.

Each resident chef, who will helm the restaurant for four or eight weeks, will showcase their culinary skills and individual styles, cooking at the unit for dine-in customers, with the option of takeaway.
