Bakes By Ben

Our 22nd baker at Baker X @ Orchard Central is Bakes By Ben, operating from 13 June to 2 July 2023. We spoke to co-founder and baker, Ben, to find out more about his journey. 

Ben is a 17-year-old teenager who currently attends ITE College Central, Nitec in Mechatronics and Robotics. Ben has Autism, but he does not allow that to stop him from enjoying the things he likes.

Ben’s mum started to get Ben to learn alongside her in the kitchen from cooking to baking since he was 6 years old. Ben was initially fearful of the kitchen, but slowly overcame different challenges and became the confident young chef that he is today.

Ben likes to bake and only bakes what he loves to eat – Walnut Chocolate Brownies! This has since grown to become his signature bake. To him, baking is an expression of love “I like to eat, so I bake.” Ben’s parents decided to start Bakes By Ben on 15 March 2021 to sell his Signature Walnut Chocolate Brownies. 

Being a part of Baker X @ Orchard Central

Ben’s parents felt that Baker X will be a great way to have him utilise practical life skills. This will also allow Ben to better understand the world and at the same time, let the world better understand Ben through his brownies.

Baker X @ Orchard Central is a project to give budding home-baking entrepreneurs the opportunity to trial with a physical outlet and scale their business.
