Our 14th baker at Baker X @ Orchard Central is Dilutedcoke, operating from 1 to 13 November 2022. We spoke to founder Jia Jia to find out more about her baking journey. 

Jia Jia’s passion for food started during her polytechnic days which prompted her to take on a nutrition degree at Singapore Institute of Technology. She then moved on to work as a nutritionist and later took up a graduate course on food science and human nutrition at National University Singapore. Jia Jia has always been intrigued by how food interacts, particularly baking – she’s consistently experimenting with food and flavours.

She first started her Instagram ‘Dilutedcoke’ as a platform to document her bakes but subsequently orders started coming in and she left her full-time job as a nutritionist to focus on her home baking business.

With her knowledge on nutrition and food science, Jia Jia ensures that her bakes are healthier by creating all components herself – using less sugar, no artificial flavouring or colourings and additives but at the same time ensuring they are flavourful and texturally appealing. 
 

Being a part of Baker X @ Orchard Central

Jia Jia would like to step out of her comfort zone and work in an open space, providing customers a convenient location for pick-ups and to be able to interact with her customers face to face. Through this project, she hopes to gain a better understanding of her customers and her own working style in managing the business.

From 1 – 6 Nov, look forward to their Pistachio Tart, Salted Caramel Mix Nut Tart, Pistachio Choux, Biscoffee Choux, Black Sesame and Yuzu Sando, Pistachio and Lychee Rose Sando, Canelés (Pistachio/ Black Sesame/ Kinako), and Pistachio tiramisu.

From 8 – 13 Nov, choose from their Matcha Yuzu Salted Caramel Tart, Lemon Tea Meringue Tart, Genmaicha choux, Matcha choux, Earl Grey Pecan Sando, Hojicha Macadamia Sando, Canelés (Earl Grey/ Lemon Tea), and Biscoffee Tiramisu.

Baker X @ Orchard Central is a project to give budding home-baking entrepreneurs the opportunity to trial with a physical outlet and scale their business.

 

Through this initiative, Far East Organization aims to encourage the entry of new brands and enhance the business ecosystem in Singapore by providing customers with more choices and encouraging greater diversity.

 

Bakers work in a fully equipped baking studio and café, a physical space provided to them at no cost, over a period of 2 to 6 weeks to bake and sell.
