Our 11th baker at Baker X @ Orchard Central is Joobakes, operating from 9 to 31 August 2022. We spoke to founder, Joo, to find out more about his baking journey.

Joo loved having his dad’s homemade butter cake with Teh-si growing up and with his dad’s age catching up, Joo thought he should learn the craft of Hainanese Butter Cake. However, baking did not become an interest until much later.

In 2018, he took a break from his corporate job to travel the world and decided to also start learning baking professionally at the same time. In 2021, when travelling was put to halt from the pandemic, Joo started Joo Bakes.

Joo hopes to bring back simple and wholesome classic, all of his bakes use French butter with no substitutes or artificial flavouring.

Being a part of Baker X @ Orchard Central

 

Through Baker X, Joo hope to expose his bakes to like-minded folks that appreciate tasty, classic and wholesome bakes.

This initiative also allows him to try his hand at a different operating model and move away from his comfort zone of his home.

Joobakes will be offering Butter Cakes and Cookies in a myriad of flavours.

Baker X @ Orchard Central is a project to give budding home-baking entrepreneurs the opportunity to trial with a physical outlet and scale their business.

 

Through this initiative, Far East Organization aims to encourage the entry of new brands and enhance the business ecosystem in Singapore by providing customers with more choices and encouraging greater diversity.

 

Bakers work in a fully equipped baking studio and café, a physical space provided to them at no cost, over a period of 2 to 6 weeks to bake and sell.
