About Baker X @ Orchard Central

Baker X @ Orchard Central is a project to give budding home-baking entrepreneurs the opportunity to trial with a physical outlet and scale their business.

Through this initiative, Far East Organization aims to encourage the entry of new brands and enhance the business ecosystem in Singapore by providing customers with more choices and encouraging greater diversity.

Bakers work in a fully equipped baking studio and café, a physical space provided to them at no cost, over a period of 2 to 6 weeks to bake and sell. Our very first baker is White’s Bakery, operating from 20 December 2021 to 9 January 2022. We spoke to the founder, Tan Hui Yi, to find out more about her baking journey.

White’s Bakery by Tan Hui Yi

White’s Bakery specialises in Basque Burnt Cheesecake and Korean Fat Macarons with specially curated bakes that are 100% handmade, customised to their customer's requests. Founded by Tan Hui Yi, a full-time student taking a degree in business management, she previously studied Baking and Culinary Science in Temasek Polytechnic and is using the skills and knowledge gained to start her little personal project – White’s Bakery.

Through her bakes, she hopes to share her passion while bringing happiness and joy to reach people’s hearts. White’s Bakery consistently strives to refine their craft and better cater to their customers through the feedback they receive. They also believe in giving back, and are hence working with SPD during this season of giving (note: a separate event from Baker X), in hopes of helping those with disabilities in the little ways that they can.

Hui Yi has always wanted to open her own physical store where she can personally meet her lovely customers, have a little chat with them and get to know them better. Having this pop-up is a great opportunity for her to do so, and she couldn’t let this slip. Through this experience, Hui Yi hopes to gain a wider audience, more exposure, experience from running this physical space and of course, a closer bond with her customers.
