Our 30th baker at Baker X @ Orchard Central is YouKneadCakes, operating from 4 to 31 May 2024. We spoke to founder, Yu Feng, to find out more about her journey.

Yu Feng started her small batch home-based bakery back in 2020 – it was simply a weekend project that she juggled alongside her full-time job as an engineer. She then left her job in September 2023 to run YouKneadCakes full-time with hopes to open a café of her own in the near future.

YouKneadCakes specialises in simple rustic home baked goods that caters to taste buds of all ages. Bakes are reduced in sweetness, with a wide range of tasting notes ranging from citrusy (which is Yu Feng’s personal favourite) to fruity, chocolatey and nutty.

Being a part of Baker X @ Orchard Central

 

Starting her own café has long been Yu Feng's aspiration since she started YouKneadCakes. Baker X was the perfect outlet for her to kickstart this journey. With access to a fully equipped commercial kitchen, she aims to master managing a physical café. This endeavour serves as a stepping stone towards realising her dream of owning her own physical café.

About Baker X @ Orchard Central

 

Baker X @ Orchard Central is a project to give budding home-baking entrepreneurs the opportunity to trial with a physical outlet and scale their business.

 

Through this initiative, Far East Organization aims to encourage the entry of new brands and enhance the business ecosystem in Singapore by providing customers with more choices and encouraging greater diversity.

 

Bakers work in a fully equipped baking studio and café, a physical space provided to them at no cost, over a period of 2 to 6 weeks to bake and sell. The cafe also houses social enterprise, Tea Ideas, which opens from Tuesdays to Sundays.
