Our 25th baker at Baker X @ Orchard Central is The Good Cupcakes Company, operating from 30 September to 19 November 2023. We spoke to founder, Josephine, to find out more about her journey.

Josephine began baking as a therapeutic distraction when her dog fell ill, but was dismayed by the high sugar content in recipes. Growing up, she did not have soda or sugary treats due to her father's illness, which made her aware of the health risks associated with sugar.

This sparked her search for a recipe that is low in sugar and calories yet tasty. After 3 months of research and practice, Josephine perfected the recipe, left her corporate job, and started The Good Cupcakes Company.

Josephine saw Baker X as an opportunity that will provide her operational experience of a brick-and-mortar and to get customers feedback in real time – she values customer’s feedback as it helps her improve her craft.

The Good Cupcakes Company will be offering their classic 150 Calorie Cupcakes, Shortbread, Boxed Cakes and Baker X exclusive Korean Bean Paste Cookies!

There will be various flavours available for the light and fluffy 150 Calorie Cupcakes such as Dark Chocolate, Earl Grey and Vanilla Strawberry. Each cupcake is artfully decorated or hand-piped with buttercream flowers available in Classic, Floral and Puppy designs.

Baker X exclusive Korean Bean Paste Cookies will be making a debut at Baker X, available in three flavours – Earl Grey, Matcha and Vanilla Bean. A modern twist on the traditional snack, crisp cookies are adorned with meticulously hand-piped Korean Bean Paste blossoms, creating a delightful balance of textures and flavours.

Be sure to check out the eggless and buttery Shortbread and Boxed Cakes. These sponge cakes are layered with Chantilly or chocolate cream and decorated with hand-piped flowers.

For the month of October, The Good Cupcakes Company will be running a free floral piping demonstration by Josephine at Baker X every Sunday, 3pm. There will be a 20-minute piping demonstration of various floral cupcakes or bean paste cookies. No registration required, simply walk-in and join the fun!

Through this initiative, Far East Organization aims to encourage the entry of new brands and enhance the business ecosystem in Singapore by providing customers with more choices and encouraging greater diversity.

 

Bakers work in a fully equipped baking studio and café, a physical space provided to them at no cost, over a period of 2 to 6 weeks to bake and sell. The cafe also houses social enterprise, Tea Ideas, which opens daily.
