Our 33rd baker at Baker X @ Orchard Central is Hone Bakes, operating from 18 September to 13 October 2024. We spoke to the mother-daughter duo, Wei Lee (mother) and Yi En (daughter), to find out more about their journey.

Hone Bakes is a home bakery started by a housewife baker mum and a covid baker daughter. Always dreaming of turning her baking hobby into a reality, Yi En took the leap and invited her mom to join her. Together, they've created a space where they can experiment with new flavors and techniques. Their specialties include light and airy chiffon cakes, decadent gateau cakes, and artisanal sourdough bread.
 

Being a part of Baker X @ Orchard Central 

 

Wei Lee and Yi En’s dream has always been to open their own cafe and joining Baker X was the perfect stepping stone to allow them to experience what it is like to have a brick-and-mortar store and the opportunity to connect with their customers on a personal level. The mother-daughter duo values customer’s feedback, which helps them continually improve their bakes. Through the experience, they hope to gain insights into the challenges and rewards of owning a physical business, bringing them closer to our goal of opening their own cafe.

Hone Bakes will be offering their classics and bestsellers!

Look forward to their Gateau Cakes available in Matcha Black Sesame, Lemon Pistachio and Earl Grey Chocolate flavours and Chiffon Cakes available in Pandan Gula Melaka and ⁠Orange Chiffon.

The classic Sourdough Bagels will be available in five flavours – Black Sesame, Walnut, Pumpkin with Chicken Floss, Olive Cheese and Plain/Mixed Seeds.

About Baker X @ Orchard Central

 

Baker X @ Orchard Central is a project to give budding home-baking entrepreneurs the opportunity to trial with a physical outlet and scale their business.

 

Through this initiative, Far East Organization aims to encourage the entry of new brands and enhance the business ecosystem in Singapore by providing customers with more choices and encouraging greater diversity.

 

Bakers work in a fully equipped baking studio and café, a physical space provided to them at no cost, over a period of 2 to 6 weeks to bake and sell. The cafe also houses social enterprise, Tea Ideas, which opens from Tuesdays to Sundays.
